Hi, I'm Justin. Like anybody else, my experiences have shaped my view of the world.
I grew up in a union household where my dad was an electrician for IBEW 292. I have four siblings. Our parents made it work with love, hard work, and the health insurance and solid wages guaranteed to them by the union. And they put us in every extracurricular activity they could.
When I was in college, I became a proud father. I worked full-time in the service industry to support my son while putting myself through school by taking a full course load. It was not easy. Rent for a one-bedroom in Eagan was half of what I earned. Child care took the other half. I had to work a second job to pay for things like my car payment, insurance, diapers, and food. In my last semester, I took an unpaid internship at the Minnesota Senate, leading to a career in state government.
Now, I have a home in Apple Valley with my wife, Kate, and we just tied the knot in September 2021. Our son Brayden is a 2nd Grader at Echo Park Elementary, and, like many, we love the schools in ISD 196. Our family is growing! We are expecting a daughter in August. I am the President of our local homeowner's association and am excited to continue coaching youth sports.
I'm inspired to serve in the senate because I know from experience that livable wages, health care, child care, and good schools are human necessities and far from guaranteed. We must continue investing in working families, expanding opportunities for all, and lifting our communities.
